MEMS VERTICAL MOTION MODULATED FLUX CONCENTRATOR FOR MINIMIZING 1/f NOISE IN GMR SENSORS
نویسندگان
چکیده
1/f noise is one of the main noise sources of giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensors, which will cause intrinsic detection limit at low frequency. To suppress this noise,a novel vertical motion modulated flux concentrator (VMMFC) is proposed in this paper, which has high efficiency and simple structure. The flux concentrator and modulation film of VMMFC were analyzed with numerical simulation. The simulation results show the modulation efficiency of VMMFC exceeds 21%. A preliminary prototype sensor based on the multi-layered GMR AA002 and VMMFC was fabricated and its modulation efficiency achieves 18.8%, which exceeds the efficiency of most existing sensors with other modulation schemes. Also, the magnetostatic detection ability is improved to 0.53 nT/√Hz.

The potential advantage of some magnetic sensors having a large response is greatly decreased because of the 1/ f noise. We are developing a device, the microelectromechanical system MEMS flux concentrator, that will mitigate the effect of this 1 / f noise. It does this by placing flux concentrators on MEMS structures that oscillate at kilohertz frequencies. By shifting the operating frequency,...

In this paper, we describe how magnetoresistive sensors can be integrated with microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices enabling the mechanical modulation of DC or low frequency external magnetic fields to high frequencies using MEMS structures incorporating magnetic flux guides. In such a hybrid architecture, lower detectivities are expected when compared with those obtained for individua...

GMR sensors are increasingly used for magnetic surface inspection due to their high sensitivity and high spatial resolution. In case of simple planar or cylindrical shaped components, the GMR-based inspection procedure can be automated easily. In order to reduce the inspection time we present a GMR-based NDT-system consisting of a yoke and a coil as a local magnetization unit. This way the glob...

The sensors comprise a tunnel junction, a “flux concentrator,” and a mechanism for chopping the input signal with a mi...
